Recommend me a good booster pedal - short in cash!!

Morning All,

After I recently bought few pedals including Marshall Guv'nor II & Sabra Cadabra...I need some booster pedal.

Originally (ideally) I was after: Fulltone OCD (overdrive but may use as booster as well), Xotic EP or Tube Screamer, however after recent purchase, I'm eghhhh... short in cash.

So, what would you recommend which is worth a look but will not break my bank ??

I play mainly blues and rock (AC/DC stuff) and looking for something to boost solo parts etc.

Many thanks,

Chris

The Rowin Booster is quite good but have a look at the Tone City range - Andertons have them for £39.99 and i have just bought the Bad Horse which is a klone but maybe the Sweet Cream is what you are after? I think their Dry Martini is an OCD clone

  • MXR Micro Amp is the correct answer. Can be had for around £50 s/h.

The Tone City Bad Horse is a fine pedal, and would work great as a clean and/or dirty boost.

Or the Mooer Pure Boost (RC Booster clone) can be had for not much more wonga.

Edit: As for cheap Tube Screamers - I have a Mooer Green Mile (Tube Screamer Clone) in the classifieds for £20 inc postage.

Another shout for the Tone City pedals - really well made and only cost about £40 each. PMT are selling the TC Electronic Rush Booster for £41, might be worth looking at.

Maybe even an EQ would do it like Boss GE-7, then you can just boost certain frequencies to cut through on those blazing solo's

You can get a clone of the ep booster for about £20-25.

Mine isn’t getting used at the moment as I’ve run out of spare power supplies...so your welcome to it for £15 if you want it.

I've got a few pedals for sale including a Spark Booster and an MXR Badass OD both of which would be ideal for your application if you are interested?

You can pick up a Joyo Vintage Overdrive for like 20 quid. From comparison vids on youtube it sounds almost exactly like a Tube Screamer. Plus it's true bypass.

  • The Mosky XP Booster is Chinese made Xotic EP Booster clone- goes for well under £20 from Tomtop including postage.

Even TGP has lots of satisfied customers.

Don't talk politics and don't throw stones. Your royal highnesses.

Tubescreamer mini or a clone, like one of the Mooer jobbies.

Big vote for the TC Spark mini, shouldn't be much used and is really useful to have

Caline Pure Sky is apparently a Timmy clone (either way, it sounds very good).  For a bit more colour - Joyo Sweet Baby.

Good pedal but not bypassed properly so it sucks tone.  Don't know if they have fixed that with the newer ones.

I got rid of my MXR and built myself a clone of it.

Mooer Pure Boost (RC Booster rip off?) might be worth a look.

The newer Micro Amp+ is a great booster with added bass and treble control. No issue with the bypass as far as I can tell. I prefer it to my Xotic RC Booster on my main board.

The Pure Sky is very good to push a fuzz or OD. I've got one I use in front of a Hoof fuzz, really smoothes things out and gives loads of sustain. I think there's one in the classifieds at the moment too.

There's a few mentioned here I'd like to try as well. The new MXR Booster pedal is very high on my list.
