MS Word without Office ?

I have an old laptop with Vista but without MS Office and all that jazz, we want to create some basic Word type docs, whats the best way to do this?

Freebie like libreoffice? It's based on open office and has compatibility with MS products (not 100% but close enough if you aren't doing anything too complex.

Or you could be really brave and go Linux completely and use open office

+1 google docs is great and can then be downloaded in Word format

Re google docs - if you have to read docs created in the latest version of office, it does muck about with some of the conversion and you lose quite a bit of the reviewing, comments and formatting 

If you are just creating from scratch or don't care about the above features then it's fine
