What should I be looking for working with this very small, non negotiable budget?

Its just something to tide me over for 18 months or so until I buy something better so would welcome any suggestions!

Ideally smaller than a dread.

Thanks!

Thanks, really looking for a smaller body though and presume there'd be better value to be had in the used market?

Are you looking for a particular type of sound? For a rootsy old school bluesy feel then you'll pick up a Gretsch Jim Dandy for well under your budget second hand.

I'm pretty open minded to be honest, it's not a serious purchase as i'll be replacing it with something better when funds allow, so don't want to overthink it too much! I just want an alternative to the electric for certain things.

I'll look into that Gretsch you suggested!

There can be some variation in quality with them, but if you try before you buy then you know you are getting a good one... (then again, that's the same with any acoustic!)

If only Epiphone did a modern reissue range of their cute little 60s acoustics, eh @Strangefan? ;)

Haha Ooooh yeah @Bridgehouse, you can't beat those 60s acoustics!

You know (not to derail the op's thread) but I think Epiphone could make a killing with a cheap, simple, well put together small body acoustic based on their 60s ones..

Are there any good online retailers for second hand or am I best looking privately?

Classifieds here or Facebook groups would be my candidates at your price point.

Worth a go - if it plays nicely I don't think you can go wrong for that kind of money

I picked up a Yamaha FS720S for about a hundred notes.  Cracking smaller acoustic: more than enough for my ham-fisted twanging, anyway.  Yamaha generally seem to offer awesome value for money, esp. used.

  • £150 is what I paid for my Gretsch Jim Dandy. Plays better and sounds better than it should for that price. being a parlour size it, er, fits your smaller-than-dread spec ;)
"Working" software has only unobserved bugs. (Parroty Error: Pieces of Nine! Pieces of Nine!)
Seriously: If you value it, take/fetch it yourself
