FS: Yamaha red label fg 180 Nippon Gakki *SOLD*

matdotcodotmatdotcodot Frets: 179
edited November 2017 in Acoustics £

Early 70's FG 180 red label Nippon Gakki, decent 3mm action, marks around edges of body, and knock on back of headstock that I had checked out by my local luthier when I bought it and he didn't seem that fussed. Looks worse than it is, would rather someone came round and had a play, based in Brighton.

This is reflected in the price though at a good £185

Will add some more pics when I get home.

  • Great guitar! Is it made in Japan or Taiwan?

  • It is the Nippon Gakki earlier version so Japanese made.

Hmmm - that price seems fair.

    I recently sold a Taiwan red-label one for £150.

(The first batch they made in Taiwan were supervised by the Japanese and had red labels.)

  • Thanks @prowla The early Taiwan ones always seem to sound exactly the same as the Nippon Gakki ones, I think Elliott Smiths Yamaha was a Taiwan one to be honest, and that always sounded really nice.

  • I prefer these ones with the Yamaha logo, as opposed to the compass logo or whatever it is. Anyhow, as long as it has some decent fret life and a straight neck (no reset needed) that's a steal.

Definitely not in need of a neck reset, action is 3 - 3.5mm on 12th fret, most of the old Yamahas I looked at had terrible actions, but this one stood out. I know what you mean about the Yamaha logo, I don't love the 80's compass/tuning forks thingybob either.
