  • Yep, it's bewildering if you are not trying to create something! I found best to go through setting up patches to replicate songs, also some banker presets of effects I liked - happy to share some if they are useful to replicate CE1, CE2, Electric Mistress, Phase 90 etc

  • Not a möbius but I recently got a Timeline and the whole presets, menus and submenus thing is completely not for me. The sounds are great but I just can’t use it at all.

(It’s currently languishing in the classifieds) ;-)
    How very rock and roll

Anything more than one knob and I'm baffled.  That's why I like my Phase 90

  • I used to be a lawyer and it was drilled in to me that you explain things to people by starting at the beginning. Very few people start at the beginning and that causes unnecessary confusion.

I printed out the Mobius User Manual - nowhere, in any of it's thousands of 'explanations' does it start at the beginning. For example, if I want to get the Mobius to give me a Chorus (it has five); I go to the Chorus section at page 8. It tells me that the Chorus section has five fab Choruses to choose from; it tells me that I can alter the Mix of the wet chorus signal, that I can also adjust the brightness of the effected signal.

All very important stuff that I need to know, but surely, before any of that very valuable information has any value to me it should start by telling me to either turn the TYPE knob to select Chorus and then press a foot
switch (there are two, plus a tap tempo to choose from), or press a foot switch and then turn the TYPE knob to select Chorus.

    - you get the idea. Start at the beginning Strymon!!!

  • I've got one and it is a really terrific bit of kit, capable of delivering some excellent sounds. However, I was pretty familiar with  programming multiFX so it wasn't too difficult to work out the principle behind how the developers were thinking in terms of menu structure etc. I agree it must be hard if you are just jumping  straight in without experience of similar concepts.

If you have a USB-midi cable (the Roland UM One is compatible with everything I've tried it with) you can download Strymon's Nixie software and  tweak via the  PC interface which makes it a little easier getting at the deep parameters than via the front panel. However, it's perfectly possible to get excellent sounds out of it  by just twisting the knobs and using your ears.

I don't use half of my möbius' capabilities but I mainly bought it for the midi side of things. However I'm finding more and more sounds out of it all the time. Truely a versatile pedal. It's all I need really

That's really interesting - thanks vasselmeyer.

Agreed. I think it's amazing - years ago I had a Line 6 PoD with lots of modelling stuff, I also had a horrid Fender modelling amp I couldn't get rid of fast enough - and I was worried that the Mobius was going to be a modern version of those with lots and lots of bad to mediocre effects that left you cold. It's certainly not that, it's breath taking.

I wish I'd bought it months back. Even new (I got mine a few months old and saved a chunk) it would have saved me at least £1,000 in pedals. Love it.

    - I'm off to the Strymon website to do some downloading!

They sound great but like others I don't get on with the big box Strymons. I've had the Mobius and the Big Sky and although I understand exactly how they work they were too much hassle and they are both long gone. The El Cap however is still on my board. And a Deco. :-)

  • I think people try to do much with them - aim to have about 10 patches, 2 or 3 are your go to - the others a bit more specialised, then tweak on the fly. I think it goes wrong when you try to fill all the patches and find that you will never use them and spend more time tweaking than actually aiming for a sound in your head

I don't have a Mobius but I have the other two.  I have 6 or 8 patches that I use.  Once you get those set up, then it's just a matter of selecting the right patch using the footswitches.

  • I would be lost without mine - I have a few different patches for each of the core modulation effects, plus some that are more specific to certain bands (e.g. Nirvana chorus).  I play in a band that performs original music so there are also patches for those songs - before a gig I will re-order the patches to match to the set list, which I find really helpful.  Since I got mine I have sold all of my other individual modulation pedals and stopped looking at any others.

Or you can get a looper like I have  to select presets via midi

That's the really exciting thing - I'm hoping I've found the cure!

  • The Mobius is the only mod pedal I've got (unless you count my Zoom G3 which is my amp and board backup in one unit). I sold all my others on  once I got it. It shines when linked up with a midi controller and an expression pedal.
