Unusual colour. Do they come in tobaccoburst......or maybe that lovely (Gretsch) orange.
I've seen blue, red, green & tobacco burst.

Mine's an Artwood I think. Trad styling single cutaway 2 pickups mounted on a solid central block, Les Paul-style controls. Agree that the pickups are a bit bland, I bought it for the looks more than anything so I could get traditional jazz gigs.

It's kind of you to play some jazz for the men digging up the road.

what's that behind the guitar and to the right of the hifi standmount speaker? Esoteric foreign (european) hifi?
"Working" software has only unobserved bugs. (Parroty Error: Pieces of Nine! Pieces of Nine!)
Seriously: If you value it, take/fetch it yourself

  • Oh no.....I've just seen details of a second hand Epiphone Casino in my locality....for not much more than the Artcore that I've been perusing. What is a feller to do?

  • Simple- Try it out. If you don't like it buy something else.

Marlins guitar up there was mine and I’m hoping it might be again one day, love it.

But.... the Casinos do get a lot of love everywhere and you’d be a bit mad not to at least go and check it out me thinks.

  • Went for the Ibanez in the end. So far so good.
Eminently playable as bought. Maybe put on a set of flatwound strings at first string change. Would be rude not to.

a floor standing light.  Indirect diffused light for pleasant late night noodling.

  • Sorry for bumping a thread that is nearly a year old......but I've been in self denial thinking that the nut action/first fret action  was ok when, after playing the guitar at the bottom end with a capo on the first fret it was eminently more comfortable and easier on the fingers. So took a smidge out of the nut for strings 1,2,3,5 and 6. (String 4 seemed ok). All went well.......But...string 1 might be a bit too low for comfort! I broke the size 10 e string while I was in the process of doing that slot and have had to put a size 11 e string on. The 11 doesn't buzz when played unfretted.....but the clearance at first fret is only about 0.05mm or thickness of a piece of printer paper. (Measured  when pressing string down between 2nd and 3rd fret) Ok for now but I reckon it may buzz when I get a 10 e back on the guitar.

Or I could just play with size 11 e strings ad infinitum.

  • You want at least 11s on an archtop, they vibrate the top more and give a better sound. I have 12s or 13s on mine, currently 13s on my 1978 Ibanez 2635...I don’t do bends very much on that one though

I use halfwounds 12’s on my Epiphone Broadway, heartily recommended

Get a tiny drop of superglue on the sharp end of a pin and coat the bottom of the E string slot. Leave it to set overnight then re-file the slot to the correct depth.

you can fix the over-cut slot with superglue and baking soda
do a google, you might find a video

  • Thanks for your comments and suggestions guys. I've been down the superglue and baking soda route before so I'm ok at doing that if needs be but I'm also thinking of putting a set of 11s or even 12s on the guitar as a I play it acoustically rather than through an amp.

But if I go down that route I'll probably need to go through all the nut height adjustment thing.....might even need to alter the relief also.

It's decision time for me. I like playing with 10s.....but wondering how much better guitar might sound with heavier strings on it.

It’ll sound 100% better with heavier strings
