how important is the music video in 2017 ?

initially music was all about the music, then it became all about the video on mtv, what about now ? how important is a music video to the enjoyment or publicity of a musical release ?

It’s still pretty important in distinguishing the image of the band. Not having a social media presence isn’t an option for the vast majority of acts.

A lot of people listen on YouTube these days. Or they stream. Either way just the recorded song being good enough probably won’t be enough for any kind of career in this era... video is just another advert for your gigs or to build the brand of whatever you want to sell
