So, who likes Bigsbys?

What's Hot

I think they look super cool. I have one on my number one Tele guitar and I really like it. I spent time and effort on making it stay in tune so it does. Why do people hate them? they are probably only second to relics in terms of vitriol.

they are the ford capri of the tremolo world. they look kinda swishy but are actually totally rubbish.

It puzzles me too. I like Bigsbys, although I wouldn't put one on every guitar.

I think EMG pickups are another thing which attract irrational vitriol...

Yes I like them - have previously had a 335 with one and a Telecaster. Also had an Ibanez and Dearmond with the own versions.

I’m left with an SG and a Gretsch Electromatic.

Some of my favourite players are expert Bigsby abusers.

Neil Young, Richard Hawley and a few others, Rockabilly types etc.

Sadly I can’t play like any of them and just use it for a shimmer effect now and again. To this end the two guitars I play most don’t have one.

    Bigsbys do look cool though...

I have one on my Trussart Steeledeville, which sports TV Jones Powertrons, which some of you may know.

I totally live it. Looks and function.

I don’t own a guitar without one!  For me, a Bigsby is mandatory

i only have one gtr with a Bigsby, a Supro, but it's one of my faves, mostly i think some people don't like stringing them up...
i have a Gretsch-style bar bridge with it now and love it.

  • I wouldn't have a tremolo system of any kind near me.

That's fine then - the Bigsby is a vibrato system.

I love 'em. Three of my guitars have them.
If Bigsby made one for a bass guitar I'd use it!

They look great and work best with a roller bridge (IMO).

The best part about them is that you can easily move the bar out the way and still use alternate tunings.

Re-stringing annoys me, as previously mentioned elsewhere.

  • Gretsch have made it easier on new models with the string through design rather than the pins - sadly this doesn't seem to be available direct from bigsby???

Bigsbys look cool but don't work on every guitar. I have one on my Yamaha SA503 TVL and it was part of the appeal when I first saw a photo of the guitar, if it had just been a hardtail it wouldn't have looked nearly as droolsome as it does.
I don't like trems but the Bigsby gives me just enough wobble to add some flavour without being OTT.

You can unscrew the pins to remove them on some I've seen, not sure about modern ones.

I find that makes restringing harder, because then it's a pain to remove the old strings.

I love 'em. Two Gretsches, a 330, a Tele and a Les Paul (all with the Bigsby from the factory).
