Re-stringing annoys me, as previously mentioned elsewhere.
I've never had a problem. I use a blob of blu tac that I just wedge in over the string ball and onto the guitar. A one second wedge!

I think they look really cool. Never used one..
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

  • Love them on Gretsch's, tried one on a Les Paul and hated it, think they look wrong on anything else.

  • Love mine - use it loads and the guitar stays in tune - I replaced the tune-o-matic bridge with a wilkinson roller and Grovers with GOTOH locking tuners, I'm sure that helps.

Bigsbys always stay in tune. It's the bridge and the nut that can cause the trouble, especially the nut on guitars with a wide Gibson or Gretsch-type headstock. Narrow Gretsches and Epiphones are much less bad.

(Assuming the Bigsby is fitted properly, at least…)

If it’s out of tune, sort the nut.  99% of Bigsby tuning issues can be solved by addressing and lubing the nut. Don’t forget to open the slots at the back of the nut, as the strings can bind at the acute angles where the string meets the nut.

Sort that, the Bigsby will stay perfectly in tune (except the B50, which (depending on break angle over the bridge) needs additional work.

  • I just took this in a trade - Gibson Midtown Standard with Bigsby with roller bridge and proper rosewood board. The guitar plays and sounds great and stays in tune. It's my first ever Bigsby experience, but I'm not sure the ironwork is my cup of tea. So if anyone would like to take it off my hands, do please let me know!

They're the only vibratos I do like. I've never been into fancy wang bar action, just a little warble now and again.

Bigsbys are wonderous things and I’ve had many over the years. I’ve learned two important things about them, one is that you need to put the time in to make sure the guitar is all set up correctly and the other, not all bigsbys are created equal. They are all capable of producing a lovely shimmer but a few are just heavenly.

The one on the Gretsch I have now seems to be absolutely perfect in every way and even just a gentle lean on the arm makes a old hack like me sound like I have angels brushing my strings.
