They're just the same as other guitars, or at least all the ones I've worked on have been.
Nowhere near as odd as something like a Rickenbacker.

I had a shim in mine also, I believe the first owner played a lot of slide guitar.

A few months ago I had an issue with a Trussart that @SteveRobinson resolved for me so maybe worth a shout if required
Assuming the owner is relatively local to yourself @gassage have you tried J Davey? He’s the local( ish) tele guy ( as in work for Status Quo).

You then get a 'rattle' inside the body, so you can get the shim out if you remove the control plate cover
I've also known the wood neck to be very tight to the steel body, so as to almost scratch the side of the neck butt as you take it out/put it back
