Analogueman on TPS

What's Hot
hotpickupshotpickups Frets: 1820
You're probably all seen it or about to tune into this week's episode. Bit too much info for means skipped a bit but he does do some very nice pedals that I wouldn't mind owning some of :) I'm more interested in the fuzz tbh and will have to wait 'til next weeks episode for that delight. The Astrotone and the Envelop filter pedals were my two favourites so far

Looking forward to watching this. For me, he’s maintained the quality whereas Keeley is now churning them out with a level of mediocrity in build and sound. Wish his website wasn’t quite so “retro” though!

Edit: Love your instance on Anglo-cising his name!

One of the best TPS episodes ever.

  • Mike is one of my favorite builders. Quality pedals and a very humble person, in a (pedal) world full of egos and obscure dudes.
Good deals with: andrewaward (X2), wellsyboy (X2), AxeWieldingBastard, rainer2859, garfy, rogandroll, Gassage, HoraceB, johnhe, hyperben, JezWynd, interstellar, soma1975, pumkin, JDE (X2), JohnPerry, Varun, Springywheel

That was pretty interesting, actually watched the 50 mins in one go. Analogman seems a pretty decent chap. His stuff may be a bit pricey, but then he hasn't got the scale of economy of some of the big boys. I like it that he's open about what his pedals are based on and his hands-on passion, getting bands to come to his house to try out his stuff at band levels.

One criticism I do have is that Dan and Mick are a bit crap at presenting. I don't dislike them, but Dan doesn't half waffle at times and needs to get to the point and Mick seems a bit space cadet at times. The stuff where Dan's going through the glass cabinets and giving it the 'wow, I haven't seen one of these for years', but then frustratingly neglects to tell or explain what is it is - arggh! They need a bit more scripting and better questioning technique I think.

Looking forward to the fuzz episode.

Not long left on the KOT list for me. It did make me think they could work a bit faster on them.

Me too for the fuzz episode. So many of / distortion pedals on offer but little fuzz pedals interest me. Really into the veteran though. Gonna get me a silicon one or maybe a sun face. ;)

  • I remember when Keeley and Analogman were two sides of the same coin, so glad Mike has kept hardcore. Now what ever happened to that Indyguitarist pedal modder?

Thought it was particularly telling that Mike said he tests pedals with a band at volume then tweaks. This really shows in the KOT in particular. As has been said many times on here, it’s ok at home volumes, but incredible in a band context.

I watched the whole thing, found it very interesting. Mike obviously loves what he does, and does not need to deviate to far away from his original concept for Analogman pedals.

It's also obvious, he knows about a ton of pedals!

  • I was amazed the KOT has been around for that long, and demand is clearly still outstripping supply, impressive.

He became a drug addict, nearly went bankrupt and hated his reputation as the Mod guy.

His turn around is quite fantastic.

  • This was pretty interesting; although what Mike said about digital pedals becoming obsolete was a little silly - they're not like computers! At the end of the day a digital pedal will still operate the same way on day one as it will 10 years from now. A pedal is a pedal; I can only see the cheaper multi-fx units like Zoom MultiStomps really becoming obsolete (like the 505s before them). Pedals like the Bitquest or any single-function digital pedal will be just fine, I think.

  • I don't have a particular desire for any Analogman pedals but his office space and his approaches are quite interesting. I generally like TPS and that's a good episode, not sure I'll be able to cope with the all fuzz second part though.

Same here, I just don't get the fuzz thing. I get the drive/boost/distortion thing but to me most (not all...!) fuzzes sound the same.

I've tried a few fuzzes and I wouldn't quite agree tbh. I've found it all depends on what amp you are putting them into

I don't think all fuzzes sound the same but there is an interest in the minutiae of it that I can't get engaged with.
Anyway, looks like this week they are doing auto wah so I shall put aside my fuzz arguments for another week.

It's gonna be two weeks until that fuzz episode apparently :(
