I'm in London, so I'd certainly recognise Sadiq Khan.  No idea who the current Lord Mayor of London is, though.

And my local MP is Chuka Umunna, so no problem recognising him either.  I haven't seen him out and about in the constituency much though, although I did see him once on the train.  His predecessor, Keith Hill, was a bit more visible locally, even though Labour were in government most of that time.

Yes to the MP, it's Chris Grayling the transport minister. No a clue about the mayor.

@EricTheWeary is/was involved in probabtion or rehabilitation services i remember from a previous comment. he can probably tell you what a total waste of a (human?) life Grayling is.

unfortunately my MP is Tory and well known, but days are numbered as it's a marginal and brexit turning shit-shaped (with further trashing of living standards) will see them soundly ousted.

don't really know about mayor. they seem some sort of anodyne and pointless leftover from the feudal middle ages. but not evil or mercenary, as i think it's a role without significant financial benefit.

they open fetes and villagers clap, as far as i can tell? and wear weird clothes out of trumpton.

Yeah our local mp Phil Sawford is a horrible inbred looking bloke with extremely conservative views and a dim view of the modern world.

Yes, he pushed through major changes that were untested and against all professional advice and even some Tory peers. Changes to decrease costs and increase efficiency that resulted in increased costs and failing on all sorts of targets. There was an element of protection around some services, primarily those which would be politically sensitive if they failed. So, work with sex offenders , for example, wasn’t as effected because imagine the hoo ha if the papers went with that. So, I can see there was an element of political smarts mebbe.  Long, long list of idiocies imposed by Grayling and the private companies who won the work and struggled to manage. I lost my job as part of all this ( I felt worse about it all when I was an employee, this isn’t bitterness born out of redundancy) and haven’t really kept up to date. Maybe he was a visionary and it’s all working itself out...

Yeah, I voted Tory despite him, not because of him.. Our last MP was Labour, and really responsive, and seemed a genuinely nice caring guy. Out last Labour candidate though was (of course) done for fraud.

    Both.
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

I know my MP pretty well - he comes over as a twat on TV but is a decent guy and a very good MP.  If you email him with an issue he replies in a few hours, even if its to say he's got your email and will respond in detail later. He's also active in supporting residents against big business, the government, county council and local council. No complaints about him on a local level.

Not met our mayor but she's also very good - she's a working class Tory with no airs and graces who does a lot for charity and the local community and is no fan of May and co.

Remember, it's easier to criticise than create!

Oddly enough in the news this morning is how the privatised part of Probation is failing under Grayling's reforms. I'm quite glad not to be there really.

MP is Dominic Raab the justice secretary. I do recognise him as he's on TV a lot.

Saw the mayor at my kid's school fete. No idea what his name is.

I can't help about the shape I'm in, I can't sing I ain't pretty and my legs are thin

But don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to

  • Not sure how it works on the mainland, but we have different MPs from different parties - e.g. Sinn Fein, DUP, SDLP etc.  You can choose who you go to.  Most of them will do nothing for you, unless it's coming up to election time and they want your vote.

As far as the Lord Mayor I had to look it up.

Yes I am well acquainted with our spineless prick of an MP.

    Tory MP ?
Not that it matters in practice, but yes.
It's just something to put on his CV, without even the vaguest pretence of being interested in his constituents.

I live in a sheep farming area and they're Tories through and through, even though they're among the poorest farmers in the country.
