Next Gardiner + Houlgate Auction and a few vintage corkers

Just been down today to Gardiner and Houlgate and seen a few goodies for next auction - no info yet regarding potential prices but

64 Tele - 56 LP Jnr - 60 LP Jnr + 59 Esquire - all look kosher, tidy and clean - all in a glass cabinet today so did not get a chance to look closer - watch this space

I wonder how much  it sold for? Very rare amps. I sold a mint one a few years ago for about £600. It's one I wish I had kept.

I watched some of the auction today, nothing of much excitement. Thought it odd that the red 513 PRS fetched £50 more than the 2014 Custom 24. Pretty much as last time, people paying too much for nothing. 
Talking of vintage guitars from people who don't know enough did anyone see the refin and suspect 1953 Tele at Guitar Guitar...must be on consignment, it was on ebay recently at a stupid price too...

£260 plus usual fees.The amps seemed to be better value than the guitars. The Carr Mercury was only £720 plus fees.

Wow someone got a bargain there. I might look a bit more closely at the next auction, looks like a few things do slip under the radar.

Lot number 40 is complete firewood obviously, but you could double your money selling the original Wide-range hums and the rest is gravy.

Mercurys have sold on here for circa £900. With the auction, do you have the opportunity to try out an amp beforehand and make sure it’s working properly, and that the valves aren’t shot etc? The Maz Jr went for a hammer price of £800, ie nearly a grand all-in, and they’ve definitely sold for less than that on here.

I’d also be very surprised if you could get £1600 for the wide range hums, especially as there’s no guarantee they work properly.

Personally I think there’s very few bargains on there, and lots of stuff seems to sell for the kind of money you’d pay in a guitar shop, where you’d get a warranty and the opportunity to try the gear out properly first.

I can't find the results - how much did the Odyssey guitar sell for?

Where are you getting a figure of £1600 from? Estimate for Lot 40 is £200-400.

Original CuNiFe WHRBs can go for a few hundred quid, and there's not that much to fix in a pickup if there were to be a fault.

Woah - I just found it... £360 plus fees.

Someone got an uber bargain. I sold my old one for £1000 and it was nothing like as nice as that one. I had considered bidding but didn't think I'd get it... I would have done!!! Bugger...

See the link I posted above, lot 40 went for a hammer price of £650, plus the fees = £800.

I was amazed at lot 40 - I was at the auction and had a passing interest in this as a project option, especially with a guide line price of £200/400 - can't recall the exact starting price, but someone on line had started of with a reservation bid in excess of £400 and it just went from there,  mainly via on-line bidders to £650 and like you said in reality this is just a touch over £800 - and yet in parts, sooner or later it will make more than that, via the 2 p/ups and the neck as the two  main assets

A pair of proper 1970s Wide Range pickups could be worth £500-600 and a 1970s Tele neck could be worth just shy of the same. Old 70s stuff is asking/making big money: examples:

The bridge was a late 70s early 80s Fender six saddle, which can sell for upto £60+ and the bridge pickup itself looked vintage (although if its a 1970s one, its not my bag).

So put that little lot together, and its not *that* bad a deal - its just not like buying a POS like that at a car boot sale or similar...

Ebay. Must have been about 7 or 8 years ago now. It really was mint as if never used, and had its original cover. It went overseas, somewhere in Europe. This is it:

Different one, then. My one doesn't have the cover. I bought mine about the same time, for slightly less than that - IIRC. Great little amp.
