Is this achievable with rattle cans?

Saw this on the Stew Mac You Tube channel, it's an old Harmony Stratotone, the paint colour appeals to me......Copper, anyone ever tried to achieve something like this usuing rattle can cellulose? The colour not the relicing....

The colour is the easy bit. Getting things smooth using cans is tricky.

Im pretty comfident in my spraying abilities, Ive done it loads of times, its just the colour I wondered about, Id best pop into the local auto paint shop....

@WezV did an awesome Danelectro in copper if I recall correctly. He might be able to give advice.

i did, but that was  a rather low brow method with ageing copper acrylic and an air brush.   It got a few coats of acrylic lacquer afterwards


if you can find some good copper rattle cans it should be much easier than the method i used

I tried it on a kit SG and it was awful. Color was nice but took a million years to dry and was not an easy finish to do. That said I used a can from home base that I'm assuming was not up to the job and had no painting ability whatsoever so I sacked it off when I found the pick guard didn't fit (although that's another story).

Wez's copper Dano was beautiful I was very annoyed with myself when I didn't buy it to pretend it was the kit SG that I had to use as it was a gift!

I wonder if I can get paint with actual copper in it? The paint in the photo above appears to have gained a bit of green ageing....

I thought you didn’t want tips on ageing?

the paint I used had  copper in it so it could be aged.

I made a few aerosols I might still have one in the cupboard of you want to try it.

Not yet! Its on the back burner, strangely Steve never got back to me about the paint......I have too many projects on the go, but still want to try the copper paint....
