The one single song/track that best represents a band's output?

What's Hot

Sitting here listening to the glorious opus Echoes by The Pink Floyd, I am thinking about the one song of theirs that best encapsulates the band, regardless of era. My thoughts turn to One of These Days. It's got oomph, pace, key changes, a searing guitar line, and feeds on the instrumental aspect that all versions of the band tapped into. Feel free to disagree, as you might think something from The Wall or consider Wish You Were Here as the ONE thing that defines Pink Floyd.

However, let's not restrict this to Floyd, or 'bands' per se, as I open this exercise to solo artists as well.

Over to you...

Good song, but I would say Time is more definitive.

Likewise - great song, but I would have picked Rat Trap.

    Eagles - Hotel California

ABBA - The Winner Takes It All

    Crowded House - Don’t Dream It’s Over

I think Am I Evil by Diamond Head pretty much makes the rest of heavy metal unnecessary.

  • Walking on the Moon - The Police. Heavily processed, harmonically interesting guitar part, reggae influenced drums and bass - and a great pop sensibility. The band in microcosm....
