Affordable power supply options...

What are the best affordable options out there?

It's unlikely that I'll need more than 5 isolated outputs and I know that tried and trusted options like the T-Rex Fuel Tank Junior can be found for around £60 but I'm very interested to hear if anyone's tried some of the lesser known brands (apart from the ones with wallwarts, not interested in those), etc.

As above...Harley Benton Power Plant Jr.

Superb isolated power supply. It's an exact copy of the T-Rex Fuel Tank Jr. Cheap as chips too!

  • Another +1 for the HB Power Plant Jnr. It really can't be beaten for the price.

+2 for the HB Jnr as long as you haven't got any pedals with fussy power requirements.

  • I had the Diago Micropower 9v power supply which I got for £29.99 I think, did the job although the connector was very brittle and due to wear it started to break and stop working.

I’ve just got one of these...

For just over £30 I’ve found it really good.  Good selection of cables for it.
    Downside is it’s massive!

Not quite exact, it's a bit bigger (height) than the Trex.

I genuinely did not know that...and I've owned both!

I've got a Power Plant; it is heavier and bigger than my Octawhateveritscalled and I'm not sure it would fit under a Pedaltrain.

Do you mean the original Harley Benton Power Plant? It's a proper big old lump!

I found it be incredibly noisy especially when fully loaded. I presume this is down to there being absolutely no isolation whatsoever!

I did manage to fit one underneath a Pedaltrain Classic Pro but it was definitely a squeeze and I wouldn't fancy its chances if the board was being used on an uneven surface!

The Jr version is much better. If your ma needs are low then it's pretty much faultless.

I have a DR Tone which can give 9 and 12v and is the size of a smallish pedal.

Thanks for all the replies. It's looking like the HB power plant might be the best way to go so far. I'm not interested in the ones with a separate wallwart, as I mentioned.

I assume it isn't a problem to mount the power plant junior under a board? This one is only really for my home studio but you never know what you might want to use it for further down the line.

  • My HB PP Jnr is under my PedalTrain. It's been there for about three years now , so I can't remember how I mounted it. Cable ties I think. Anyway, it fits.
