It's very handy for extreme close-up inspection of things you have soldered. I always take my lenses out for close-up work like tinkering with electronics.

You can see the writing on a £1 coin quite easily with a jeweller's loupe. I would never have noticed it but for this thread.

Without wanting to post the obvious, either women have a strong forcefield around them that I cannot for the life of me penetrate [insert double-entendre here], or I have a genuine superpower that repels them. I wouldn't mind, I'm a decent guy. But maybe that's my weakness. Or I'm paranoid.

I was on an early train to London Bridge many moons ago having a nap and I had the most vivid dream/feeling that the train was going to crash. I felt really uneasy and when the train pulled in I phoned my girlfriend (now my Mrs) at home as she was due to get a later train, I wanted to warn her as it really felt at the time that there was going to be a crash. She had left early so I made up some rubbish to her Dad to explain why I had called so as not to sound bananas. Got to work and an hour or so later heard the news of the Canon Street train crash that morning - the train my Mrs would have been on had she not left early.

With that in mind, I am going to pass judgement now on the claims to superpower status. So far, we have a small handful of serious claims. The rest are just silly. The claims that I think deserve the status of unnatural ability are; Maynehead and his microscopic vision, Sporky and Dano and their hyper-accurate mental clocks, JezWynd and his ability to summon people by thought alone and DrCornelius’s ability to predict the near future.

The rest of you are just charlatans.

Any others endowed with logic-defying abilities ?

Oh! I’ve just remembered a very old one of mine....  If I close my eyes, I can feel it if you bring an object close to, but not touching, the bridge of my nose.  WTF is that about?  I’ve done several experiments with that one, and I can get it right 80-90% of the time.

I have that too - the sensation is in the bridge of my nose. Irritatingly I am now very aware of my glasses being there.

Does it work in the dark? It might be that you see the shadow through your eyelids.

my sense of smell is very acute to bacteria, this is something I learnt during my medical chemistry section of my degree.
I can quite accurately tell when somebody has an infection by smell. for those wondering it smells like walkers roast chicken crisps.

Ok, being serious about this I have met a number of very clever people who believe that humans have any number of special "powers" that in pre-historic times we would have employed, even relied upon, to stay alive.  Over thousands of years we have "progressed" to the point where these powers are no longer needed, a bit like we still have an appendix even though it has no physical function. 

i didn't mention that I can detect water underground because I think almost everyone can do this. Water dousing is derided by scientists because they can't explain how it works, but it does and it's a good example of one of these survival techniques that we have mostly lost as they are no longer needed.

I know it's possible to predict future events, particularly tragic ones, as it's happened to me a few times, less so as I get older.  I think we are born with some sort of early warning mechanism that is especially developed in certain individuals, but again it defies scientific explanation.

Another example - a few years ago I met a guy who said he was a "vortex surveyor".  Those who subscribe to the theory believe that there are lines of energy circling the earth and when they meet it sets up a vortex which in some cases are powerful forces for good - that's as far as my knowledge goes.  It's often used to explain the phenomenon of stone circles.  As with the dousing, this guy reckoned a few thousand years ago most people would have been able to recognise energy vortexes, that's where they got the motivation to drag incredibly heavy stones halfway cross the country.  TBH it's as good as any other explanation I've heard.

No, it's derided because it doesn't work, and consistently fails when tested.

There was one particularly famous one where the dowsers were told where the pipe was, and just had to determine whether the water in it was flowing or not - they failed.
