Ride, Time Machine. Name that effect.

What's Hot

One of my all time favourite songs, I've always wanted to know what makes the watery modulated sound that starts at 1:35. Kind of chorusy with subtle wah type changes???? Is it a guitar effect of synth? Any ideas?

  • I'd always thought it was a Vox Repeat Percussion and maybe a slow chorus. Great track, BTW.

    I said maybe.....

  • Thanks @lasermonkey  is that a pedal or a built in to the amp tremelo effect?

  • It was originally an onboard effect on the Vox Starstream guitar and also one of those "plug into the guitar" effect modules. It only had a speed control, so no way of adjusting the depth of the effect. It was quite a choppy sounding tremolo!

There are plenty of modern day clones, such as the EQD Hummingbird. The characteristic "bouncy" tremolo effect is the result of using a unijunction transistor, and I think this is key to getting that sound.
