When someone does that to a guitar, Fender should step in and say, "That's too f**ked to be considered a Fender Tele anymore and forcably remove all decals and serial numbers. And then insert the guitar in the seller up to the 7th fret.

Horrible. Amateur relic jobs usually look terrible. When relicing is done right, it's great. When it's overdone-like the guitar was dragged down the street from the back of a car-it's hideous. We joke about this on www.gearpage.net, the largest guitar forum in the USA. Both of the luthiers I use know how to relic a guitar so it looks natural. One of them makes Tele and Esquire copies for Bruce Springsteen. I have seen them, and they look very worn.
