Hi Guys

The amp was originally owned by the band Death in Vegas and was bought from the band in 2001 when they were working in a studio in London.  The amp was then and still is in almost new condition and this suggests that the amp was only used in the studio.  It has a REALLY heavy duty full flight case and also top quality throughout and is in amazing condition, although the butterfly catches are quite tarnished.  However, they work faultlessly. The interior of the flightcase is pretty immaculate.

The amp was made in the St Louis factory in the US in 1996 according to the serial number (B30WI60094).  This is a REALLY well made amp and weighing in at 68lbs its not lightweight.  Its rated at 150 watts at 4ohms.  It is fitted with the original Ampeg Custom 15" speaker with 56oz magnet and 2.5" voice coil. Sizewise it is: Width 20", Height 26" and Depth 13/5".  It has an effects loop and also an XLR balanced out on the rear panel for which you can select pre or post EQ via a mini switch and the level can be adjusted for mic or line via a -20db switch.

The amp gives you standard EQ via Gain/Drive/Bass/Ultra Mid/Treble/Master knobs or by pulling the master out it deactivates the knobs and activates the graphic EQ.  Great to have both options.

I have a copy of the manual for the amp.

The amp functions perfectly and I have used it a lot over the years but has never given me a single problem.  I will post a few photos here but please see a load more on my Imgur page:

Any questions please ask!  This is probably pick up only as the amp in the flightcase is heavy  Located about an hour north of London in Cambridgeshire.

Asking £300 for this which is what I paid for it way back when!!  A bit of a bargain.

If you need any more photos or info please ask!

'63 AVRI P bass ... 2005 but I can't seem to find any definitive info online about serial numbers.
Fender launched the AVRI '63 P Bass as part of the late 2012 range revisions. AVRI production prior to mid 2012 must be a '62. (The most significant difference is the pickup specification.)

The 12-5-6 date stamp format is more likely to be year-month-day or year-week-batch. This is really ICBM's department. Shoot him a PM.

Fender's own serial number search engine helpfully places your instrument between 1999 and 2012. Duh!

The pickup cover has never been fitted and is in a plastic bag with screws.
Another sure sign of an AVRI '62. (I have a Jazz Bass from the same series.) On the revised AVRI basses, Fender drills the screw holes, fits the screen plates and insists that dealers should not remove them until after the products are sold. Thus, the only way to try out the current AVRI basses is with the foam mute pad engaged. Double duh!

Really appreciate that @Funkfingers. ; It is stupidly difficult to date the AVRI guitars and why do Fender make it so difficult?

I wasn't actually sure if this was a '63, I just assumed it was!!  I didn't even know they'd done a '62 prior to the '63.  It may well be a '62 as you say.  It's interesting that the code is likely to be year-month-day, I'd just assumed it was the US date with the month/day reversed relative to the UK way or writing it.

I will shoot ICBM a PM and see if he can throw any light on it and thanks for the tip!!  I'll let you know how I get on on.

    Cheers

    Guy

The official Fender line is that they originally chose 1962 as the nominal year for rosewood fretboard Vintage Re-Issue guitars and basses because that was the year of the change from "slab" to "round lam" fingerboard joins. Theoretically, they could produce and sell either with no need to alter the model name/designation.

Your Precision and my Jazz both have the flat "slab" faces between the maple and the rosewood. An AVRI '63 always has the curved faces.

For what it is worth, I purchased my AVRI '62 Jazz is the Spring of 2013. I'm pretty certain that it had only been displayed in the shop since late 2011. The date stamps on the neck and in the pocket both state FEB 2009.

Finally, you still have not posted a price for the amplifier with flight case.

Nice! So is that Death in Vegas' flight case or old amp or both?

Thanks so much for that @Funkfingers, really appreciate you taking the trouble to explain!!  I now know that it is a '62 AVRI and by the looks of things the date may be stamped on the neck/neck pocket as it in on yours.  Brilliant.

Humble apologies for not having included a price for the Ampeg/Flightcase.  I had stupidly posted it under 'Amps' and I think I should have really just posted the amp under 'Basses.  This is a link to the post in 'Amps':

    Hi Ash

    How's it going?

Both the amp and flightcase were owned by Death in Vegas and the flight was definitely custom made for this amp.  Beautiful amp, sounds sublime!  :)

    Cheers

@surfguy13 All good, Guy. Sorry to hear you’re having to quit bass. Hope it’s nothing too serious and that you’re well otherwise. £300 is a total bargain for the amp!

Glad to hear it Ash.  Have had large lumps appear on the knuckle of my right index finger and thumb and the GP reckons it's arthritis and it'll just get worse so.......!  No big deal though, could have been my left hand and that would have been disastrous!!!  :)

Yeah, it's a bargain and I hope it goes to a good home.  They don't make them like that anymore.

Just wanted to leave this here as I'm now the new proud owner of this wonderful P Bass, Guy was the most accommodating, welcoming, friendly gentleman I've had the pleasure of doing business with. I can't recommend him higher to anyone else who has the opportunity to do business with him in the future. Thanks again, I'm going to take incredibly good care of her!
