Home recording gear for a newb..help me!!! Ipad?? Digital recorder??

I'm gonna retire my korg D4 and get some new kit. Although its served me well!!!

I want to be able to record practices , record riff ideas quickly and easily, and also create proper demos of songs etc .

Being able to plug in guitar direct and get decent sounds would be good too.

I have a 32gb ipad doing nowt that I could use for this, or I could buy some new kit.

I've done a fair bit of recording but as I learnt on a Tascam porta1 and then upgraded to a kord d4 I lost track of whats out there!!

Help!!!

My answer every time this question comes up:

I have one and it's ace, just add GarageBand.

Or if you wait a little longer until this is finally released:

I LOVE ipad for hobby recording, stable, great features but not too complex, with a better display than you could ever wish for. It's like having the perfect portastudio.

the second relies on his iPad having a Lightning (newest iPads only) connector.
Normally I'd suggest something like a V-studio 20 (I have one, fecking brilliant) because it comes bundled with a whole load of effects and amps, but if you have an interfect for the ipad, just use the appropriate one :)

What he said!  For an interface I'd recommend apogee mic or jam but there are others.

Are you looking to do use synth software, drum programming etc?

Might be a bit OTT for you  , but checkout the Presonus kit, uses " Capture" for one take multi track recording, also produces a 2TR mix for you, then if you want, import into Studio One and do complete remix with FX etc..

I use mine with a cheap HP laptop, works great.
