Esquire scratchplate - recommendations please

OK, I’m after an Esquire scratchplate to fit to a MIM Std Tele. Preferably black and single ply. Not fussed whether 5 or 8 holes.

Are the ones sold by Axesrus, Allparts, Etc any good? i.e. Will everything line up properly and are they decent quality? Or am I better off paying a bit more and sending my original Tele scratchplate off to someone who will use it as a template?

Any recommendations? Anything I should be looking out for? Any pitfalls I may not have considered?

Many thanks.
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

I bought a "Bakelite" tele one on eBay from guitars_electric, they do Esquire too. It was unfinished so needed lacquered  - I just used a £2 can of automotive clear lacquer. It looks good - very happy with the quality

  • I made my own out of an old LP. It wasn't easy but looks great- I had to turn a soldering iron tip into a hot knife to cut it smoothly.

Best use for an old Les Paul IMHO.

I bought a black plastic single ply from guitars_electric on ebay too, it's really thick which I like a lot. I think I compared the shape to my MIM scratchplate and it was spot on.
