Basket Case - Key Shifting

OK question 2!

Same setup dep gig, many songs, minimal time to practice with the band.

One of the songs I've got to learn is Basketcase. Not a hard song by any means, but the chord changes are too fast to read it off a cheat sheet so I need to learn it properly and the original is in Eb whereas they are doing it in E which makes it hard for me to learn it along with the track.

So does anyone know of a backing track in E or an easy way to pitch shift it?

Tascam guitar trainer CD player which has a facility to alter the cd's tuning (Eb - E is easy, I've done it with my Thin Lizzy CD's). And tempo likewise.

Not looking to drop any ££ so ideally want something software based.
I suppose I could use audacity if I obtained a copy of the track somewhere, but it tends to result in nasty artifacts.

  • You used to be able to do that in Audacity for PC. Can't remember off the top of my head exactly how, though. I'm sure if you download it there will be guides on Google somewhere.

Transcribe can do that no problem.  And slow it down for you too in the new key.

Couldn't you just detune half a step to play along to it ?

Its been a long day and I'm tired so I could be talking complete bollocks.

Yes I certainly could, but I'm doing stuff in setlist order so it's easier to shift it.

That makes sense , easier to remember them if you learn them in order.

The detune option seemed so obvious I started to doubt myself
    :-?

What about a MIDI file which is easy to shift key quickly.

I have done that with success a few times.

When we covered it I used a digital capo on the VG-99 or a Variax FX combo.

If you can find a copy of it scored for Powertab Editor, or one of the other programs like it you can do it easily.

    The chord progression is

    E5 B5 C#5 G#5 A5 E5 B5 B5 (repeat)

    then

    A5 B5 E5 E5 (repeat)

    then

    A5 B5 E5* D5* C#5

1 bar each except * 2 beat on each  As played on the album, where the guitar was tuned to Eb.

    Hope that helps

There's a clip on youtube of one of my bands playing it in E (although it's before I joined).

@Clare_bear is there....it was the bands first gig I believe.
