  • You can't beat KB. However, here's a normally more jazzy Scott Henderson playing blues and a Jim Campilongo blues.

  • After seeing him a couple of weeks ago, it's Josh Smith for me too at the the moment. The four CDs of his I bought on the night have yet to leave the car - they're on constant rotation.

In that Matt / Robben / Jazz / Blues crossover vein, I've also got to say; Aynsley Lister.  Not only is he a fantastic player with superb tone, he's got a great singing voice and he's a top chap into the bargain.

Oh - and Henrik Freischlader also. He's all of the above too...
Not much of the gear, even less idea.

  • You forgot Larry Carlton
Of course! Always been way more of a Robben guy myself though. Larry is really tasteful but his playing doesn't really move me the way Robben's does.

Same here, although I'm a big fan of both. I view RF as a blues/rock player with leanings towards jazz whilst, conversely, I see LC as more of a jazz player with leanings towards blues/rock. The edgier blues/rock thing is more fitting to my tastes.

    It's not a competition.

  • @designerseye88 yeah he's great, and so young. Good vocals too. He's clearly learned a lot from Eric Gales. This version of Tin Pan Alley is cool

Yeah i was amazed to hear his age!
And you brought up another great one there - Eric Gales!. Saw him last year and he is fantastic!

    • Freddie Robinson (John Mayall Moving On and Jazz/Blues Fusion albums - old but very very good)
    • Henrik Freischlader (lovely tone, good at quoting Peter Green)
"Working" software has only unobserved bugs. (Parroty Error: Pieces of Nine! Pieces of Nine!)
Seriously: If you value it, take/fetch it yourself

I've been listening to a lot of Miles Okazaki. I find his stuff impossible to play, emulate or even understand completely. He's put in a lot of work to break down music so it makes sense to him. Screw playing even this simple intro on Mirror (2006)
"The theme, heard over the last cycle, is a four bar melody which is exactly symmetrical and is composed of 4 separate 12-tone rows made of interlocking pentatonic scales in major thirds."

Yeah he's a killer player, singer, bandleader and songwriter. The whole package and only about 20 years old! Really dig his stuff.

I don't usually get Scott Henderson, but this is cool. I do really like Jim Campilongo though. Very unique and understated style.
