I have owned a lot of different scale length instruments.
What I have learned is that each instrument has a sweet spot for its range of strings and tensions.
Aside from the tension on the top, the gauge vs scale length has a massive effect
I keep finding baritones with a scale length of 27 inches, which is only one fret longer than a standard fender scale, yet people are encouraged to fit higher gauge strings and down tune 5 or 7 semitones.
Unsurprisingly, these guitars sound a bit strange
What I have found is that a 29 or 30 inch scale with 16s tuned to B-B sounds fine, but a 27 inch scale sounds way better with normal strings tuned D-D
has anyone else come across this?
