I play mostly rock.  I fancy a p90 guitar. Should I get:
Les paul jnr
Epi casino (Gary Clark if I can find one)
Reverend sensei 290
Gibson sg standard p90
...or something else?

And why?

I love les Paul Jr's and can't speak for the rest, you can't go wrong with a good p90 guitar

The dc junior is one of the best looking imo and should be fairly light weight too

There were a few fretboard members bought these around black Friday. That is over three months ago. I think it was a great buy but I am sure others could be tempted with the right offer.

The odd one out in that selection is the Casino, with its large and completely hollow body. It'll give quite a different sound and feel to the others on the list.

Personally I'd love a Casino, but if you're mainly into rock stuff I'd go down the solid-slab-of-mahogany route. A potential alternative to the ones you've mentioned would be the Yamaha Revstar RS502. Tried one in a shop, they're very nicely put together and well priced, and I like the no-nonsense stripped-back vibe.

    Junior - it is rock.

  • You need a Jr. but as SGs are always better than LPs you need an SG Jr!
They're rare and cool as f#ck.

  • Depends how you use it. I play at home and have an Epi century and love it. The tone is unbelievable for a "cheap" guitar. Not good for lead but great for dirty blues fingerstyle. I had a casino too but imo the century is a better all round guitar.

    Epi '56 Goldtop LP.

Neck has the right amount of beef. Not as huge as the Bonamassa LPs but more girth than the slim taper Epi LPs.

Les Paul Goldtop Studio 50s version - but then I may be biased.

Amazing sounding, great value and makes you look more attractive to others*

*may not be true, YMMV, always read the label, may contain nuts, no batteries included

    I've got a Gibson SG 60s tribute - 2 P90s and it rocks.

They sometimes pop up at a good price second hand.

Havstrom Super Swede tremor.  I’ve got one with 3xP90’s. Fender scale, Les Paul style construction, spicy P90’s, with a nice full neck profile.

Deep joy. The Bigsby works well too!

Definitely an SG at the moment, as long as you are ok with the slim neck. 2016s are going relatively cheap new if you look in the right places.

See also Les Paul BFG. This is an old one but the new run comes in either 2 x p90 or 2 x humbucker.

LP Jrs really just growl albeit beautifully, and there is a difference to the tone of same PUP on an SG Jr but  these ideally for dirt too.

The PRS P90 equipped guitars are more broader ranging (my fave) and the epi P90 is rather more bell / chime than grunt, but can deliver with the right amp and boosts.

However, any P90 is a new journey and you wonder why you didn't make it earlier.

I've been looking into p90 guitars and found there to be a fairly limited range.

Not sure if Jim Adkins Tele has been mentioned yet.

The Yamaha mentioned is worth a look.

I extended my options to putting humbucker-sized p90 in any HH guitar due to the limited options but would probably prefer a real p90 one.
