Why didn't Van Morrison like Sweet Thing version by The Watersboys?

I haven't googled it it's just a thought that came into my head as I was trying to learn to play it
Please give your thougts first and then we will google it tomorrow and who knows?

The empasis was more on the vocals and less on musicallity

Because Van is a grumpy old sod and The Waterboys at that time we’re having a fantastic time, recording everything and jamming all day and night.

Nah - my Mum sang backing vocals for 4 or 5 songs with him at a festival in Scotland in the 80s and he never even spoke to the band before or after the gig. Not a persona!

1: he was/is a grumpy sod and 2: Mike Scott was stalking him at the time.  The story goes that Van would send a man into Irish pubs and restaurants to check Scotty wasn't in there before he went in.

VM doesn't like anything or anyone because he was robbed of his Brown Eyed Girl royalties and he suffers flashbacks...

I bought a Van Morrison album once. I didn’t like that. So I got rid of it. I’d rather listen to a Morrison’s Van reversing into a parking bay.
