Spraying a pickguard?

Anyone had any success spraying a Fender Strat scratchplate a different colour?

I can't find a left-handed, single ply anodised-gold style guard for love nor money!

Thinking of getting a plain white one and spraying it - anything I should be aware of, or any pitfalls?
Cheers

I bought a fender 8 hole gold anodised guard. It’s the same both sides, flip it over!

You might need to countersink the fixing holes though.

Maybe Jack's could make one, he lists anodised ally but has a silver edge when cut. Or the clear acrylic with gold underneath might be better.
Rattle can paint won't last at all well, the first screw will probably chew paint off. The cost of pastic primer, gold & clear plus the guard is probably getting close to having one made up too.

I second Jack's for this kind of thing. He'll make an identical copy of your old one that will fit perfectly. You don't notice the silver unanodised edge, but the anodised gold is not quite the same shade as Fender ones. Still nice though, just different. He also offers a bronze anodised material which may be more like the gold colour you’re after.
