I know some people use elastic bands(not sure how ) but is there some little gadget / buffer to stop this or is it all Heath Robinson "home-made" ideas .......I would have thought there may be some kind of ventilated jacket or similar
If not ;what is the best "home-made" solution?

  • My HRD has a foam block with holes punched/drilled out, could probably copy that pretty easily, it looks to be PU foam.

Do the valves have spring retainers on them? These can rattle and yes you can get some high temperature foam. The Artisans have it top of the EL84s.

You can't ever 'cure' valve rattle, it'll always be there.

What you can do, however, is lower the resonant frequency of the offending valve to a point below what your ears can detect, this is usually done by adding mass - either a dedicated valve damper ring (or two) or high-density foam.

I've found valve rings to be useful. Helped prevent rattle in a champ.

Thought my amp had valve rattle but it was actually V1 microphonic straight out of the box.. Might be worth checking first?
