Here’s a list of the best selling albums of the 70s in the UK. So - the charts, eh? Plays havoc with people’s memories of cool.

I don't know if he's been mentioned but no list of worthwhile 70s acts can be complete without including Rory Gallagher.

I spent the train journey home trying to think of obscure stuff from the early to mid-'70s.  This is mostly prog/psychedelic, a bit of proto-doom and stoner.... some British, some American, one Greek.

Leaf Hound, Warhorse, Captain Beyond, Aphrodite's Child, Necromandus, Sir Lord Baltimore, Pavlov's Dog, Tempest.

Oh, and I have to mention the Good Rats.  Who shouldn't be obscure, they were great.

I’ve got 21 of those :). And would have another half dozen of the greatest hits compilations except that I have all the original albums by those artists...

I have owned 15 of them, but I sold my ELO albums, War of the Worlds and the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack about 35 years ago.

Disco Fever may still be at my dad's house.... :)

I watched part of a cd of his the other night. Live at Montreaux 75  and 77. Absolutely loved it. I didnt realise how good he was. Will be watching more at the weekend when the kids are in bed.  He just gets on with it. Amazing performer.

Seeing the name May Blitz reminds me that there are some great samplers out there of 70s music. I have no idea if/where you can get hold of them, but as a low-cost introduction to the music of the time they are perfect.

May Blits were on a Vertigo sampler I got which introduced me to this gem:

Some good choices so far, think I've got a few that have slipped the net

Roy Wood's 70s output was pretty decent, The Move, ELO's 1st album, Wizzard & Solo stuff is all worth a look.
    Colosseum - Bluesy Jazz-Rock
Badfinger - Classy Beatles influenced pop-rock
    Brinsley Schwarz - Pub rock
ELF - Dio before he went full on rock
Hawkwind - A lot more to them than Silver Machine
Gerry Rafferty - His late 70s albums are excellent
Ronnie Lane (& Slim Chance) - Post Faces, more folk/pop influenced
Stone The Crows & Maggie Bell - Blues-rock, with powerful female vocals
Robin Trower - Hendrix influenced blues rock
Procol Harum - Their 70s output is great (& overlooked)
    Mungo Jerry - Good-time jugband blues/folk/pop
    Pink Fairies - Proto-punk stoners
Curved Air - Female fronted, classically inspired prog rock
Frumpy - German, Female fronted prog rock
