    Duncan JB?
    As a neck position pickup, the SH-4 JB is an acquired taste. A few diehards over at the Seymour Duncan User Group forum tried it and liked it. Many others tried it for the sake of experimentation and hated the results.

    Changing the magnet from Alnico 5 to Alnico 2 might help.

    What's the issue with it in the bridge - very middy?

    Ideally looking for something that will keep it's treble and a tight bottom end. Any recommendation @Funkfingers ;

    The JB is designed as a high output bridge position pickup.

    Install that pickup in the neck/Rhythm position and, in order to balance the output levels, you need an even hotter bridge/Treble position pickup. The other alternative is to adjust the JB a very long distance away from the strings.

    No law says that you your mate cannot do that. I certainly would not wish to lose Jack_ a sale. There is much to be said for making the JB the bridge position pickup and moving the current bridge pickup to the neck position.

    It would be to match with a 498 bridge, i've not heard back from Jack so no hurry.

    The JB and 498 are of similar d.c. resistance and magnet type.

    Testing the 498 in the neck position of your mate's guitar will provide a reasonable approximation of how any hot A5 humbucker is likely to sound in that position.

    As you know, Gibson usually pairs the 498 with a slightly overwound P.A.F.-style humbucker or, occasionally, with a P90.
