This is the Matchless Independence Reverb, an EL34, 35w all valve three channel pro quality amp.
Beautiful cleans on channel one, which can be pushed into a natural edge of breakup tone at full volume or by utilising the switchable master volume.
The second channel is something that just needs to be experienced. That chewy, classic rock tone is here in spades, it just makes you want to keep playing. The third channel piles on some more gain for a bit more sustain and perfect for single note riffery.
The amp started life as a head and was made for YouTube personality, Andertons product demonstrator and Dorje frontman Rob Chapman. As such it has a one off faceplate featuring the Monkey Lord’s incantation but nothing too overt that spoils the look
I bought a genuine Matchless 112 cab along with the Matchless G12H Celestion speaker, the 212 cabs are quite large but this is perfect. Small footprint, but huge sound thanks to the specially treated Matchless speaker.
This amp really cuts through in a live band situation and thanks to the dual speaker outs and 4/8/16ohm impedance switch it can accept another speaker cab to spread the sound out and increase volume (Not that you’re ever likely to need it, this thing is very loud!).
The master volume does an excellent job of taming the sound to reasonable levels, but be under no illusion, this is an amp that is built to be played loud to sound its best.
It also has a TRS fx loop (I have a cable for this that I’ll include with the sale.
Sounds really transparent but takes pedals well into the front end too.
I’ve giggled this just using a pedalboard and the clean channel.
The reverb was originally an accutronics unit but that failed and I replaced it with a MOX unit. The reverb was never going to be in the same league as a fender twin circuit, it just adds a little depth to the sound without overwhelming it.
The footswitch has been modified from the original where the cable was hardwired Into the unit, now there is a female jack which will accept any length of stereo cable so you’re not tied to the Matchless determined length. Plus this puts less stress on the cable when storing it and is really useful if you want to incorporate the footswitch into your pedalboard.
The combo has a USA made cordura fitted cover which is included.
I’m also including the empty head shell so you could go back to a head and either use the combo as a speaker cab or your own cabs.
Both the combo and head cabinets are in excellent condition.
I’ll be really sad to see this one go. It was a holy grail amp for me, and there’s nothing like playing through these legendary amps.
They have the ‘wow’ factor with the front plate lights but also back it up with the sounds they make.
Pricy, yes, but this could be the last amp you ever buy, a three channel Matchless, with built in reverb. You really don’t need any more than this and a guitar for any gig.
The only trade I’d be interested in is for a Friedman BE-50 head.
Or maybe a nice PRS, R7/R8/R9, ES345/355, Suhr, Tyler, Anderson etc

New black knobs added. The original cream ones will come with it minus one after it dropped off during load in/load out and I didn’t notice.
and a bump.

I don’t suppose you’d sell just the combo shell OP?!

The clean is amazing as a pedal platform.miserneil said: Unfortunately not, I'm still gigging this occasionally and like the 112 portability, I'm still holding out for an interesting trade to be honest even though this is probably my ideal amp.
