Surprisingly you do notice a slight difference between the 6100 and 6105!

I'd say - I love 6100s and hate 6105s. Every guitar I've ever had with 6105s has ended up being re-fretted.

As a complete jumbo fret newbie, I have Dunlop 6000 I believe on my latest squeeze.

Felt like the Alps when I first got at them on Saturday.

    4 days later I don’t notice them.

  • I have 6105 on my SG2000, and I've come to the conclusion I really don't like it :(  Slides have that "crossing the railroad tracks" feeling, and for bends I'd rather feel the fretboard under my fingers a bit.

I can't decide whether to go fat and low (6150), or fat and high (6100).

Dunlop 6100 for me. The fretwire on my Les Paul feels quite big. But once itheyve worn a bit. I love get 6100's put in. But just try lots of guitars to find your preference.

I'd just like to get this thread started again as I'm in the same position now. I may got these numbers wrong but I've been given an advised choice of either 6105 or 6150 fret wire. Differences being is ones would be better suited to lead playing the other maybe better for rhythm work for open chords etc. What would be other luthiers advice? I currently play a Les Paul and speccing up a guitar build hence my question etc :)

Hope you can advise you luthiers out there :)

For LP size i like fw47095,  it's more a medium jumbo or fw55090 which is medium and same size as 6105

So 6105 is a good arounder for up the neck and down the neck occasions ?

I had @FelineGuitars ; put 6100s on my les paul and it is awesome. I suppose the upper echelon of the board can get a touch cramped when up around the 18th and higher but unless you're slash who really spends a lot of time up there?

so go 6100 from fret 1-15 and 6105 from 16-22 (same height /different width)

I'd be careful with 6105 wire - I hate that stuff. At least play a guitar fretted with 6105 before you commit.

I like medium jumbo wire on a Les Paul - either Dunlop 6150 or Jescar 47104. I find the Jescar wire to be harder wearing.

Here's mine with Jescar FW58118 Stainless Steel 3.0mm frets. It's fantastic to play, absolutely effortless and smooth.

    That’s huge wire!

I use Jescar 47104 stainless on my Gibson’s. Big enough but not massive.

It really doesn't feel it. As @FelineGuitars ; said earlier, if the ends are well finished it's barely noticeable.
