Vacuum cleaners - wtf ?

What's Hot

Now that I have moved into my own place I am exposed to new hellish experiences that previously the ex-Mrs-O would simply make happen. Like this one.

I need to buy vacuum cleaner. I thought Argos would have, like, 3 or 4 to choose from. Fuck my actual life.

Can anyone who knows about it tell me what it marketing guff and what is sensible and how much is something reliable meant to cost ?

thank you!
Red ones are better.

    Dyson.

Shiny, expensive, unnecessarily complicated, does actually work very well - ideal purchase logic for a guitarist. The one I have - the Big Ball Animal - has a name like a boutique pedal too, so double win.

    +1 for Miele.

Or if you want to stay British, then consider a Vax.

We have quite regular vacuum cleaner Discussions on here.  Surprisingly so for a guitar forum really.

A Henry ( is the pink one Hetty?) does actual vacuuming stuff well and won’t die if you need to get up stuff like brick dust.
Our Shark was good value for money, our past attempts at Vax were a bit underwhelming.

Henry for reliability and never dieing for under £100.

Dyson cordless if you can do everything under 20mins and want super convenience. Reasonable cleaning and works well for £200ish plus.

Cleaner £20p/w, still probably need to provide a vacuum for them to use.

Miele or Henry. Don’t bother with the others.

Twentytwo years ago I was in your situation. The man next to me in the shop recommended a Henry. I asked why they were so good if he was buying spare parts. He said that he’d owned it for 16 years, vacuumed the gym daily, and this was the first time he’d had to replace something. What’s more it was repairable, and parts were available.

The motor on ours failed a few months ago.

    Again, Miele or Henry.

Henry is tougher, Miele is a bit more sophisticated and still robust. I have a Henry in the workshop but we have a Miele in the house.

From experience, Dyson are overpriced, badly designed and unreliable.

Miele every time. We had our last "cat and dog" 10 years, it was still going strong but gave it to daughter and bought another.
