Finished! Hardtail Stratele with fat neck build The Korinacaster....

A week or two ago I was looking for a Robert Cray Strat as I fancied a hardtail with a decent handfull of a neck and that pretty was much the only Strat available in that style......, however they are very nearly a grand for a MIM Strat albeit with custom shop pickups that seem to have a good rep....I nearly pressed pay now online, but something held me back.....(ended up buying an Original 50's Strat).....
Anyroadup I decided to build my own Hardtail fat neck Strat
This not intended to be like the RC model...
I have two nice Vee profile necks littering the place up looking for a body and some hardware, so I bought a Hardtail Strat body from Guitarbuild in Korina, why Korina? cos it was £100 mailed and it was one of the lightest on offer........
It arrived a few days ago and in between Hospital visits it has been getting a daily coat of clear rattlecan lacquer, its done now and I'm well chuffed with the result......I had a single ply black scratchplate in the parts store and three 250k CTS solid shaft pots, so they got used, I'm a fan of Jazz Bass knobs and I sourced four on cream, from the USA paying load of postage for the privelege.
A set of Mojo 60’s pickups copmpletes the scratchplate along with a new switch, now ai have a dilemma, I have two Vee necks A Strat with a Maple board and a Tele with a Rosewood board (The Tele heel has been reprofiled to Strat shape) which to use, over to you guys!

I have to say, I prefer the Tele neck.

All the best with it and I like the idea of Jazz Bass knobs.

both blackheads? but i must say, i prefer the strat, think the tele looks a bit too 'busy' overall.
I bet it will ring like a bell though either way.

I like a painted headstock.......I'm thinking the maple board on the Strat neck looks better against the Korina...

Hmmmm...I'm normally not a great fan of the tele headstocks but on this the tele neck makes it look more special, somehow

They made a few limba body strats in 63 i think, anyway great wood choice imo

i like both necks btw 

I did make a set neck hardtail strat in limba, i really like it even though it's not traditional, i was trying out limba at the time and it still had strat tones but warmer

Bridge arrived today, so I managed to find the time to finish this one, very oleased with it, the Mojo 60's pickups are very nice indeed.......photos

i really like that, looks good to me, i used mojo 60's middle and neck with a split coil paf, he does make fantastic pickups

I really like the sound of it, even the bridge pickup is quite nice (and I'm not a fan of Strat bridge pickups!) might order a backplate for the bridge just to see how much difference it makes......they are usually too thin sounding for me......or I could move the second tone to the bridge and leave the middle erm, untoned....

Ill take a photo outdoors later, looks much better than in the house lights.....I'mkeeping the Strat neck in reserve for when I win the SC Relic body!....Yea like that will happen!....

For me a Tele neck looks wrong on a Strat body, same as the post-1965 big Strat headstocks also look wrong. On a Strat, Leo had it right first time.
