Simply put, this guitar is simply too good to sit in my collection – it’s a crime that it’s not being used and I need the money, so it’s up for sale. It took me three long years to track one of these down – a1980 Super Real EG1000C (edit: the model might be EG1000B, if B is for 'black' rather than 'custom') in stellar condition. I’d put this up against a True Historic any day of the week.

Like the EGF1200/1800, it has the fabled Dry Z pickups. It also sports Grovers, a chunky but very comfortable neck, nitro finish, ebony board, FEB, MOP inlays, and unrivalled build quality. The neck is straight and true, action is low and could go lower, and there are no issues whatsoever with barely any fret wear - the factory fret work is simply stellar, so playability is A1 over the whole fretboard. Mahogany one-layer body, maple two-piece top, mahogany one piece neck. Weight is about 10.5 lbs, just like a Custom should be.

The level of craftsmanship is second to none. There is no gap at all between the MOP and the ebony. There are a handful of tiny dings, and the pickup selector script has faded, but overall condition is really quite stunning for a guitar of this age – see the pics. There is remarkably little tarnishing of the gold hardware, which leads me to believe that this is something of a ‘wardrobe wonder’. The binding has yellowed beautifully to a deep near-orange... just like a 60-year-old Gibson. The sound is clear, ballsy, and amazingly deep, but remains articulate even with tonnes of overdrive. Sustain is A1.

Lots of inferior Grecos are sold masquerading as this model. Please note (1) the double-diamond headstock inlay, (2) the thick Greco headstock script, (3) the Z on the pickups, (4) the gorgeous genuine MOP inlays.

Being a perfectionist, the guitar has had new volume pots tuned with parallel resistors to match the tone of the pickups (getting optimal loading), and the ceramic caps replaced with +genuine+ 50s ‘bees that measure around 0.15uF – perfect for an LP. There is also a series cap on the neck pickup to match the bass output of the bridge. The original caps and pots will be included in the sale, or I can just return the guitar to 100% stock– whatever the buyer wants.

In sum, this really is the next best thing to a 1st-class vintage Gibbo and you are very unlikely to see one for sale in this condition again.

Near-mint Hiscox hard case included. £2000 ono

Got the pics up now. Not a cheap guitar, but anyone who does their research will know it's priced fairly.

So are the 9 LOLs on the original post, so fair to ask IMO, this being the internet and all.

That's only £277.77 per lol. Decent rate of exchange in this place

I think that price point is a bit of stretch.. however, the people putting lols on the original post, probably never played an high end 80s greco with Dry Z pickups. If they had, they probably would have a different reaction.

+1 on that. These MIJ LPs are seriously well regarded and the Dry Z pickups sell for a premium by themselves. To the OP - good luck with your sale and have a bump.

It is nice. I have played and owned a lot of vintage MIJs over the years. Good luck with the sale but it is a difficult market at the moment for higher end MIJs...

Cheers, guys - I thought the lols were a touch harsh! The price is the start of a conversation, not the end :) I've seen Dry Zs sell for £300 each... and when you look at what EGF1200s have gone for in poorer condition, etc, etc.

Ha ha, not to be defensive, but I challenge the lollers to either (a) show me another one of these for sale +anywhere+ in the world, or (b) find me a shred of evidence for one of these having sold for less than £2k outside of Japan. A Tokai LS200 just sold for almost $6000 on mylespaul.com...

Make me an offer and see what happens. OTOH, I'll never get another chance to buy one of these again, so I might just hang on to it. Is it against forum rules to sell it to myself? ;-)

If you sold it to yourself, you'd definitely get the asking price

It's a very pretty guitar and I bet it plays beautifully.

Sadly I'm lacking in A ) Any knowledge of Japanese guitars and B ) Roughly £2499.50 of your asking price. I didn't think you'd accept an offer for 50p so I didn't make one

That said, I've dropped my start-negotiation price to be closer to what I'll accept - message me and see what we can do.

Ha, I spent years searching for the beast, so will just keep it and practise my Johnny Marr licks on it from time to time if no one ends up biting. To be honest, I'd play it more if I wasn't so worried about spoiling its condition.
