I know, I know I said I wouldn't.

Perhaps should be in other instruments.

Big Peaveys with massive headroom are the order of the day. I used to work with a pedal steel player and he used to say "there's the way Buddy does it and then there's the wrong way".

I had one of those once.

The chap I bought it from said it was like trying to play a guitar, drive a car and operate a knitting machine all at the same time.

I don’t know if he was right since I’ve never tried to operate a knitting machine, but I’m sure it can’t be as hard as playing a pedal steel!

All was not lost... I did manage to sell it for a profit.

I've been playing quite a lot of lap steel recently, so I have some control over at least 2 of the limbs required to work it, and the volume pedal.

My main problem so far has been trying to set the steel up so it is comfortable for me to play (I'm quite tall, and the person I bought it off is very short).

Without wanting to tempt fate, it's actually more logical than it first appears, however it does require some contortions to say the least.

I too have also been made an offer that would put me in profit........

Happy for you, will be awesome once you get the hang of it.  you will end up selling it or it will sit unused for years before you give it to some poor bastard.

Have fun! I started to dabble with lap steel a couple of years ago in C6 tuning - I kept a tuner on it all the time so I could see what note I was playing whenever I felt lost.

BJ Cole once explained it to me as being closer to playing the harp than a guitar. As the man knows a thing or two about pedal steel, when I finally got one myself I had to keep telling myself it was nothing like a guitar! He was right.

I've been playing lap steel for a couple of years now, mainly using A6 and E13, although I do have a 6 string that's tuned to C6 (and I would like to investigate C6/A7 at some stage).

I'll be using E9 on the PSG though.
