If you use the 1-second method (along with the method of cutting a bag of cherry tomatoes in half in 1 second) you can buy yourself sufficient time to check it out.

I've laced a few drinks in my time, never tried it on a shoe though, that's beneath even me.

Ear knot usually, although the "round the tree and through the hole" method works better when you need more tension

Yeah me too man. 

Bought a pair of Nike trainers from sports direct last year. Tied them once and they are now slip ons. 

Tied tight enough to not fly off if I ever need to run.. which is never.. but loose enough that they can be levered off by the opposite foot.. lol! 

As soon as the laces begin to come undone on their own, then its time for a new pair! 

Someone actually undid my laces last Sunday, by way of saying ‘sit down n relax’.. it pissed me off having to retie them. Could have been in the car and gone the time it took!
