Unfortunately he was flying at the time. They're still looking for the wreckage of Ryan Air 638 to Alicante.

Wow..  that is a coincidence !  Because it's how I spent the only time I ever saw my idols - Queen - live, at what turned out to be their last ever gig with Freddie.  I went to Knebworth with a couple of mates and one of their girlfriends - we rode up on our bikes.  I got a puncture on the A1(M) but my mates on the other bike never saw me and my mate's girl pulling over to the hard shoulder and they sailed off into the distance (we didn't have phones in those days).  Cut a long (but very interesting !) story short - we made it to Knebworth, but there was no way we could meet each other among 100,000 people and no mobile phones !  So I spent the concert with her.  Thing was, they had all the booze, but we had all the weed.  I sold half of it and we smoked the rest.  By the time Queen came on, I was completely spangled and spent their entire performance on my back under a large tree contemplating the beauty of the leaves.  Missed Queen completely.
