Nice little video about his new Gordon Smith, but can anyone please explain what he is doing in the demonstration? See 7mins 18 seconds onwards.

What scale is he playing? Any tips on how to try to recreate something similar?

Ah thanks Merlin. Mixture of C# natural minor with an occasional raised 7th (à la harmonic minor and to an extent melodic minor) and an occasional raised 6th a bit further on (à la melodic minor or Dorian)

Style-wise he’s doing a lot of what I think of as ‘back-stitch’; ie in terms of scale degrees he plays 3-1; 4-3; 5-4;7-5; 8, and other similar things.

Wot Viz said.  The easy starting point is C#m pentatonic, then add the 2nd and 6th to taste.

He's also scattering around some nice double stops, either 3rd and 5th or 5th and 7th.
