My favourite D7 shape is anywhere up the neck, play a standard D shape, with neck pushed away from you then release B bender and it drops to a D7

That's a D7(no3rd) and it's a mighty fine chord - I use it a lot

The open D string gives your fingers freedom to stretch to create some juicy dissonances. I don't really play this as a chord, as I only ever arpeggiate it, so it's really a D7sus4 bleeding into a D7, but as a unitary chord it is

X 9 7 7 7 X and X X 0 11 10 10 are my favourite Ds. The last one is quite a good intonation test too.
