Gov't minister: "Don't use Viagogo"

What's Hot

Well, well - a government minister, no less, has put her head above the parapet and said "Don't use Viagogo."

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-44299981

Margot James, Digital Minister, said it on Radio 5 this morning.  It looks like they're also in trouble with the Advertising Standards Authority AND the Competition and Markets Authority!

Good quote from consultancy firm Iridium:  "[Viagogo] seems to regard UK consumer protection legislation as a minor inconvenience" - this because they are now based in Switzerland instead of UK.

Grown most uncommonly fat!

They think they are above the law - their comment that Ed Sheeran's invalidation of re-sold tickets is "illegal and unenforceable" is also wrong. Any venue can legally refuse entry to anyone if they see fit to, and they will enforce it physically if necessary. It's only illegal if the reason is found to be discrimination based on race, gender etc - and then the offence is the discrimination, not the refusal. So good luck trying to legally demand a right of entry when the management say your ticket is invalid.
"Take these three items, some WD-40, a vise grip, and a roll of duct tape. Any man worth his salt can fix almost any problem with this stuff alone."

They should stop these con sites from bulk buying tickets to gigs. It's a disgrace that it's even allowed.

I think they know exactly what the law is.  I've a suspicion that they're just pushing it as far as they think they can get away with for as long as possible to extract the maximum amount of cash.

    Expect imminent rebranding.

    ^ So Much This.

I think that there should be a way to resell tickets because sometimes people need to cancel because they can't make it, and of course this system can be abused by people buying tickets to make a profit on resale.

It is a much larger problem when people do it on a huge scale, there should be a limit to the number of tickets by address.

Surely the answer is ticket sites can buy tickets back (with an admin fee and proof of destruction or sent back( and reissue at original price)
