FS: Dr Z Stangray Anniversary with Oak faceplate - £999

A strict 'one in, one out' policy is forcing my hand to re-home this fantastic Dr Z amp

Modelled on an the original AC30 design, this amp sports as EF86 preamp pentode valve via a long tail PI into a quad of EL84s and on into a Ken Fisher designed output transformer running to 4,8 or 16 Ohms

The controls are simplicity itself - a volume (note not a master volume) to determine the drive and output level, a tone control to fine tune the upper mids and a cut control to adjust the level of sparkle.

These amps are linked to Brad Paisley, but they are capable of so much more than just country - wound up it produces a thick and really dynamic overdrive that will keep any fan of 70s rock very happy.

The EF-86 gives a different tone and dynamics to the ECC83 topography that stands it apart and is also really cool and usable

It cleans up beautifully and yes, if you want to do country, with a quick twiddle of the controls, it can take you're head off with more snap than you can handle.

EF-86s had a reputation for being noisy, but this amp is dead quiet, even with the volume dimed

I'm selling the amp with the stock valves as it came from Dr Z (a set of Groove Tubes EL84s and a GT 12AX7 in the PI) plus a NOS Mullard EF-86 up front

The amp is in mint condition - no damage to report unless you consider felt feet stuck to the bottom of the rubber feet damage?

I have swapped out the original bright red (back to Brad Paisley again) faceplate for a solid piece of oiled oak. I'm selling the amp like this and will also include the original faceplate as pictured

Please note this is a US voltage amp, so you'll need a step-down transformer to run it on UK power, but these are very easily obtained and really don't present any hassle once you're plugged in.

The amp is available to try in Dorking, Surrey or I'm happy to post at cost.

And up she goes - really rather nice early Vox EF-86 tones without the compromises
