does the fretboard system 'care' if we stay logged in?

this is a random thought but i was curious to know.

sometimes i sign in at teatime to respond to a comment, then occupy myself with something else, leaving myself signed in.
i then come back at midnight for a soporific read (your mind-soothing prose!) before sleeps.

does staying signed in slow down the site for others?
or is it actually good for the attendance numbers re 'most popular guitar sites' charts.

maybe i'm a techtard to ask. but it's one of those 'i wonder' things.

I'm pretty sure you only show up on the list of active users for a few mins after clicking. Idling shouldn't cause any problems. I usually have it open in the background permanently

Nah, it doesn't really make a difference to performance. If the tab is the active one and your computer hasn't gone to sleep, it'll send a heartbeat pulse every minute or two to say you're still online, but that doesn't really affect performance at all.

you are so lucky i am not a techy involved with this forum because i wouldn;t be able to resist playing with the log in feature.

first 'update' would be the addition of sounds. maybe with a big oriental gong crash when you log in, like the start of the old rank films. & the family fortunes eeeer-eeerrr buzzer when you get it wrong. & when you get a 404 error or some similar glitch, you get the little 'we will fix it' mouses song from bagpuss.

i would drive you all away within the first week. guaranteed.

@vale you wouldn't. I write this from a PC that has no soundcard, and on other PCs I use that do have soundcards I've learned to disable sounds. I hate those damnfool noises that Windoze makes, it's one reason out of many why this desktop is running Linux and I keep a laptop at home with Linux on it.
