They build guitars for “privet” order... that’s why it’s pictured in the undergrowth!.

That's a really good place to put them. You can easily 'roll' the controls with the side of your hand quickly without interrupting your playing too much.

It's a bit like the toggle switch position on a PRS - it looks odd, until you use one and then you realise it's the best place of all.

It doesn't seem that bad to me
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

Presumably it once had a separate bridge ans stoptail and the location hides the original holes for the stoptail. Or maybe there was a flaky bit of timber, or damage/error occured in manufacture?

Seems alright to me and doesn’t look too odd. Not so sure about the Alfa pots though. I assume they’ll sound as good as the Alpha ones that most people use ;-)

The Duesenberg Julia has the coil split switches behind the Bigsby which looks a bit odd to me, reminded me of that.
