Domestic air conditioning

What's Hot
Want a couple of units for bedrooms.
What should I be looking for, and how much should I expect to pay?

How big are the bedrooms? I've had one for years and for normal summers they are OK - mine is probably knackered. An average bedroom will cost £300+ and you will need a window to stick the hose out of. You can buy an external wall mount job for £650+ plus installation.

This will give you an idea:

August is forecast to be wet and cooler ...

Our rooms are fairly small, about 3.5m x 3.0m.

    Portables are noisy.

The one I got for my workshop was about £1500 (including installation) and £110 a year in servicing, but it's near silent and much more effective than the £300 portable in the bedroom. The workshop is 7m x 4m though so you'd be OK with a smaller, cheaper unit per room, or a central heat exchanger and separate wall units.

Our next house will be air cooled and heated.

We just got a ceiling fan from B&Q, installed in place of the existing light fitting about 5 years ago.  I think it as £49.

The company I work for hired floor-standing portable air conditioners when our office building cooling system broke down. They are made by:-

    AMCOR

    DiET

    CHALLENGE 8000 BTU

Unfortunately, I do not have the model numbers.

The above are quite powerful and very effective at cooling. However, you would need to fabricate an opening in a window for the exhaust hose. Most of these units are supplied with an exhaust hose adaptor for windows.
