I thought that strat and tele necks were interchangeable? Either way, I'm sure I could deal with that.

You can put a Strat neck on a Tele body but there will be gaps at the corners due to the Strat's curved heel. You cannot put a Tele neck on a Strat body without a bit of woodwork to one or the other.

As for the headstock reshape, in my experience (I've done this a few times) the Strat headstock is not quite wide enough for the widest point of the Tele headstock. It's a small amount though and you can blend the curve to look fine.

I'm thinking of putting a strat neck on a tele blank and I haven't cut the neck pocket yet so shouldn't be a problem! Thanks for the input all. Very early days of a project but I've seen a nice strat neck that I'm considering, although I'd prefer a tele headstock.

Thanks, don't normally have any trouble, but just would not work for me for some reason. Cheers anyway. Ibanez blazer or road star neck on over the top modded tele, about 20years ago.

This is a standard strat headstock simply sawn across.  This is on my main guitar and has put up with all sorts of bumps and scrapes - still plenty strong enough despite the loss of wood...

The loss of the wood on the lower side makes no difference to the strength at all - that part of the head isn't supporting the string tension.

These were also made by sawing off a standard (large CBS) headstock - oddly, it almost looks bigger!

I've just built a tele from a kit which came with a generic unshaped headstock strat/tele neck with a separate tele headstock template.
In the end i shaped it like a strat instead of the tele because the template was very different around the nut area.
