UK Made Acoustics In Mainstream Retailers

SparkySparky Frets: 90
If I was in the market for a British built guitar, where would I go on the high street? I appreciate there are bespoke luthiers in the UK that I could go to, but how many British made brands are there that sell through UK retail establishments?

mansons and project music in Exeter generally have a few UK builds in stock, as does Coda in Stevenage.

I'm not locked in here with you, you are locked in here with me.

Lowdens seem to be everywhere now but I'm not gonna be crazy enough to call them "British" ... rather, "UK-made." Avalon will fall into that category too.

Peach have the last couple acoustics Patrick James Eggle is ever gonna make...

Atkin is another good one to scope out, they are carried by a few dealers.

    Think they're stocked by...
    Oasis, Ringwood
    Ivor Mairants, London
    Project Music, Devon?
    Promenade Music, Lancs
    Intersound, Glos
... and maybe a few others.

Don't know what they carry these days, but in the past Ivor Mairants used to stock a few British makers.  Brook, as mentioned above, but I've also seen Moon, and David Anthony Reid in there.  Moon can vary quite a lot, but they did have one dreadnought in there that was one of the best sounding I've played.  The other Moon guitars I've played weren't as good, and I've seen one or two less than glowing comments about them, so they are definitely a try before you buy.

What I noticed with Fylde, who used to in the local Scayles, is that as the order book fills up there's no stock or staff to supply the retailers.

Saw a D, A, Reid T-type in guitarguitar which looked gorgeous. But it was in the glass practise booth, with someone testing amps LOUD, and I didn't have the bollocks to ask to try it.   ;)
