So what makes the seal between the tail and the valve body then?

I’d use PTFE on all the threaded joints, just as belt and braces.
Maybe I'm over thinking it and should just get on with it. I just wish I could remember what I did last time, I'm looking at that rad now and it's never leaked!

Use ptfe tape on threads only.
I'm assuming that thing on the right hand of your photo is an air bleed valve for the radiator ? I can't quite work out what it is !

Wow... I've never seen one like that before ! Just a convex and concave surface to seal ?

All I can suggest is that you ring them in the morning mate. I'd love to know the answer though !! I'm 90% sure that those two bits are not meant to be together though.

Just tried to fit one valve and tail together with a spanner. I put as much grunt behind the joint as I could but when I took it apart again there isn't so much as a scratch in the chrome plating on either part!
I've sent them an email, hopefully they'll either confirm a missing fibre washer or something or will confirm they are as they should be. Watch this space.

Look at it from the water's view. If you leak past the tapered face what path do you take? It won't be down the thread, it will be straight out of the end of the nut.
Does that make sense?
Excuse the cockiness but I'm still going to say that joint can't be watertight without something else going in there, and even then I have my doubts.
@veganic I'm not getting you.... if you have water in the radiator, under pressure, it's going to go through the centre hole in the tail piece, and encounter resistance at the valve. Where's it going to go ? - it's going to weep out of the non-watertight joint between the convex surface of the tail and the bevelled surface on the valve.... onto the floor. Could you clarify what you're saying ?
