Leathering the Frets ??

I'm planning to tidy up a couple of guitars, cleaning, new strings and such like. Came across this article in Premier Guitar which recommends using leather to fine polish the frets.  Anybody uses this method?  Seems to suggest its the same principal as old fashioned barbershop open razor, leather idea and it will extend the life of frets...

i don't think it will hurt, it will certainly keep then shiny...  not so sure it will extend life noticeably - surely the repeated polishing and stropping will shorten life as much as any extra hardness adds

If there's an option, always go with leather.
